Kill la Kill Review

Full Review

Pro: Air of Epicness, Dualistic themes, characters, soundtrack, design

Con: Obvious lack of focus at times, have you seen the 4 episode bluray sets (haha jk), cgi fights are unneeded here

Final Thoughts: It has taken me a while, but now I can write with the utmost certainty that Kill la Kill is pretty good. What that "pretty good" is I know not, but I have learned to appreciate many things that Kill la Kill does right as well as tried. It’s like being so proud of your child for entering a spelling bee only to find out that he only got third place. Well what's wrong with third place right? Kill la Kill represents the praise and bashing sides of anime and uses both of them together to make a mostly entertaining ride for its audience. It mocks the people who says it’s only fanserivce and rewards the audience who stick around for some great dualistic ideas.

Story: Ryouko Matoi is hot on the hunt for the killer of her father with only half of a scissor blade as a clue to his murderer. The trail leads her to the prestigious Honojii Academy where Satsuki Kiruin reigns with a list of ideals that would make any facist blush. She keeps order and control through the school with special goku uniforms that make the wearer have all kinds of hobby oriented abilities. She gives the most powerful uniforms to her most loyal subjects who in turn vow to serve her with their higher class privileges. It’s up to Ryouko Matoi to beat the truth out of her from the inside with a Kamui sailor uniform left by her father as she plans on getting revenge and answered questions.

Characters: The four main Ryouko, Mako, Satsuki and Gamagori are all incredibly likable and fun to watch while the rest hold up better when they are interacting with one another. Mako's family are the greatest comic relief family I remember ever seeing in an anime. All in all, they all work together to support one another through this somewhat mind fuck story.

Art: No major complaints here, the cut and paste editing never really bothered me and often added to the comedy. The cgi fights sequences were un-needed and mostly distracting.

Sound: ....the composer...of the blue exorcist soundtrack....can do no wrong. "DONT LOSE YOUR WAY!!!"

Final Score: 2 stars most of the time (switches from 3-4 occasionally)

Recommendations:

Gurren Lagann/Panty and Stocking/Cutey Honey
