Mini Review

Pro: Updated movie quality animation, some legit funny moments

Con: Added characters range from boring to completly unlikable, any sesne of motivation or objective is left in the toliet.

Final Thoughts: Let me set the record straight I am a big Fairy Tail fan. I loved the show, the characters and the first couple arcs. So any of you who expected me to praise this as an epic movie don’t be surprised when you leave the movie feeling a little disappointed. After watching both the Fairy Tail and the Ao No Exorcist movie (which came out only a few months later), it is easy to see which one is superior. I cannot help, but compare the two because they both came out in the same year and feature popular shonen manga. Both make up their own story in the world of anime movies off a television show. This movie leaves me thinking it did not need to exist, but since it does it seems as a waste of time and money. With more popular anime shows like this it seems the team behind this movie thought they did not need to try to hard because it would sell tickets anyway and it shows. While some of the comedy is golden it is not anything we have not seen before. The added characters are so incredibility unlikable and I do not just mean the “villians” and they have some of the stupidest names to match. Natsu is the only one who did anything and Lucy cried 90% of the time. The only good things were the updated beautiful animation and the story’s atmosphere. The way the characters were placed into this made little sense and their reactions (besides Natsu) were lame.-_- Why not have Lucy for once toughen up and teach Natsu a lesson instead, is that too much to ask? Lucy keeps on having to be reminded that Fairy Tail will always be there for her, I mean after the first season it should have been obvious. Why some would argue the ending was sad, I thought it was more of a bittersweet ending. (the starry sky filler arc was better than this) The little nalu moment at the end does not make up for this overall unimpressive movie. Oh and the "bad guys" don't get me started. They are so weak both in character and objective. Not the least bit memorable. Sadly this movie leaves a bland dry taste in your mouth and while you might find yourself occasionally smiling it is nothing that leaves you captivated, entranced or as emotionally fixed as the Ao No Exorcist Movie. It is not bad, but could have been a whole lot better. It is a sad missed opportunity.

Spolier: As for the ending, I don't understand why everyone is so worked up, she was happy to die because she would live an eternal life. It's okay cry and mourn for a second, but geez everyone would have died otherwise.

Final Score: 2 stars

Reccomendations:

Ao No Exorcist Movie/Inuyasha Movie 2/Lupin the Third Movie 2 The Castle of Cagliostrou
