Mini Review

Pro: Great world building, Unique take on typical video game animes, enjoyable characters

Con: Political/Strategical talk may bore some, the animation and music could use some improvement

Final Thoughts: I may be a little late in the game (pun) to be reviewing this series since the second season just finished airing this past winter, but Log Horizon is one of the few anime's that makes me feel weirdly smarter after watching it. Normally this kind of show would be a big turn off for me, but this anime goes to show me that I can enjoy a multitude of different genres. The excellent world building dilemmas really help make this anime enjoyable the whole way through even in its slower moments. Most of the characters get a good dose of development throughout both seasons as well. There are some legit emotional moments in the series that many people can relate to, unlike SAO. (aka: Sword Art Online) I hate people who try to compare this to SAO, because while they do take place in video games scenarios they go about dealing with it in completely different ways. SAO tries to escape and conquer while Log Horizon tries to strategize and make peace with their situation. This leads in to Log Horizon being the definite better of the two when it comes to story and characters while SAO only surpasses in music and visuals. To me story and characters are more important in an anime than overall look so Log Horizon wins the fight by a landslide in that regard. The opening theme "Database" is thankfully saved for all of season 1 and 2 which is also catchy, unique and awesome in its own way. I would recommend this to any anime fan who likes RPGs and a smart (even if already used) setup for a story. I hope this gets a third season soon. I need more of Shiroe and Akatsuki in my life.

Final Score: 4 stars

Recommendations:

Accel World/Code Geass/Sword Art Online (if you are desperate)
